It can be quite easy to take this wedding lark a bit too seriously. I mean, it can take months and months of planning, worrying about this detail and that detail, getting everything right. Sometimes it’s just nice to take a step back and have a bit of a chuckle at how silly it all gets.
So by the marvel of Twitter, I was highly amused to find a annual event in San Francisco that does just that – takes the mick out of the madness of weddings.
The Brides of March is basically a yearly pub crawl open to anyone in a white wedding dress, and the more extravagant or outrageous the outfit, the better. Oh yes, and did I mention, men are particularly welcome to join in!
According to the San Fran free love-types behind the event, rather than overly sanctify the wedding dress, (a symbol of society’s shackles and our need for consumption) The Brides of March gives everyone the opportunity to reassess the values that should really be supporting our desire to have a wedding – love and commitment – not just a love for expensive clothes.
And it’s also the chance to have a bit of raucous, drunken fun by the looks of things!
